Orangutan O/93
The O/93 is the same thinking in a smaller cabinet and at a lower price. A 10-inch paper cone woofer with phase plug, the same gently horn-loaded 1-inch silk dome, and 93 dB into a steady 10 ohms. Response runs from 30 Hz to 22 kHz, and the standard finish is figured mahogany.
Those three decibels matter if you own a very low-powered amplifier: where the O/96 will sing on a handful of watts, the O/93 appreciates a few more. In return you get a cabinet that fits a normal Belgian living room more comfortably, and a considerably lower price.
It has been well received for years. Herb Reichert gave it an Editor’s Choice in Stereophile, Ken Kessler in HiFi News wrote about its mix of vintage character and modern transparency, and Alan Sircom in Hi-Fi+ about how directly it puts the performance in front of you.
The family character is intact: warm, tonally rich, easy to listen to for hours, with the kind of timing that makes you stay for another side rather than reaching for the remote.
If you’re choosing between the two, the answer is usually your amplifier and your room, not your budget. Bring your amplifier along, or tell us what you have and we’ll set up the comparison.
